{"id":710,"date":"2017-08-07T11:06:43","date_gmt":"2017-08-07T11:06:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nhslref.scot.nhs.uk\/?p=710"},"modified":"2017-08-07T11:06:43","modified_gmt":"2017-08-07T11:06:43","slug":"rapid-access-atrial-fibrillation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nhslref.scot.nhs.uk\/?p=710","title":{"rendered":"Rapid Access Atrial Fibrillation"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Referral Criteria<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Rapid Access Atrial Fibrillation Clinic (RAAFC) for patients with:<\/li>\n<li>Recent newly diagnosed atrial fibrillation.\n<ul>\n<li>Confirmed by 12 lead ECG.<\/li>\n<li>ECG must be attached to referral.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Exclusion criteria:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Known long standing AF<\/li>\n<li>Known or suspected valvular disease<\/li>\n<li>Known alcohol abuse with liver impairment<\/li>\n<li>Left ventricular systolic dysfunction\/ cardiomyopathy.<\/li>\n<li>Decompensated heart failure.<\/li>\n<li>If exclusion criteria present these patients should be referred to a cardiology clinic.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Contraindication to anti coagulation therapy :<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>haemorrhagic stroke; significant bleeding.<\/li>\n<li>conditions in which risk of bleeding is increased, e.g. history of gastro-intestinal bleeding, peptic ulcer, recent surgery, recent ischaemic stroke, bacterial endocarditis, uncontrolled hypertension. ( BNF May 2013)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>RAAFC will appoint within 10 working days of receiving SCI referral.<br \/>\nDiagnosis will be confirmed.<br \/>\nStroke risk will be assessed<br \/>\nTreatment as per AF protocol will be initiated\/recommended<br \/>\nFollow up at RAAFC if appropriate.<br \/>\nReferral on to cardiology if appropriate.<br \/>\nDischarge to primary care if appropriate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Referral Criteria Rapid Access Atrial Fibrillation Clinic (RAAFC) for patients with: Recent newly diagnosed atrial fibrillation.
