The pain clinic is held at the Buchanan Centre, Coatbridge.<\/p>\n

The staff do not always have access to all hospital and electronic records and hence completion of the form will assist in patient management.<\/p>\n

Please attach any relevant hospital clinic and investigation letters\/reports from Docman<\/p>\n

Please state if a patient requires ambulance transport. As there are no facilities for this at Coatbridge, ambulance patients will be seen at WGH.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t
Services<\/td>Lanarkshire Chronic Pain Service provides out-patient multi-disciplinary assessment and treatment for adults with chronic pain.
\nLCPS Aims & Objectives
\nThe team consists of two consultants in pain medicine, two specialist nurses, one specialist physiotherapist and one clinical psychologist.
\n
\nThe Pain Management Programme is based at the Douglas Street Health Centre in Hamilton
\nRehabilitative & psychological approach to pain self-management
\n
\nThe Pain Clinic, based at the Buchanan Centre (Coatbridge) and Wishaw General Hospital, has a more medical approach:
\nTENS, medication, acupuncture,
\nDiagnostic and medication advice and review
\nOccasionally other procedures will be arranged at the day surgery unit at Wishaw General Hospital<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Who to refer<\/td>Patients over 16:
\n
\nWith pain for longer than 6\/12
\nWith a chronic painful condition
\n
\nor
\n
\nWhose pain is causing significant distress
\nWho have been fully investigated,
\nFor whom no further investigation or treatment is planned,
\nWhose lifestyle is significantly disrupted,
\nWho find standard analgesia is ineffective and
\nWho accept, during discussion, that a cure may not be possible.
\n

Who not to refer<\/td>Patients under 16 (without initial discussion with Yorkhill (Glasgow) paediatric chronic pain clinic
\nPatients who would not tolerate the journey reasonably well
\nPatients with back pain should initially be assessed through MSK or back pain service pathways
\n
\nPatients with:
\n
\nRed Flags
\nPain for less than 6\/12
\nAwaiting investigations or specialist opinion, or invasive treatment
\nAlcohol \/ drugs dependency
\nSomatisation disorder
\n
\nCaution in relation to the following:-
\nActive mental health problems where initial referral to mental health service or medication may be more appropriate:
\n
\nDepression: major
\nPost Traumatic Stress Disorder: major
\nPersonality disorder: high level or primary
\nSomatisation Disorder
\nBereavement: significant unresolved issues
\nAbuse: unresolved issues
\nObsessive compulsive disorder: major
\nEating disorder: major
\nPsychosis: active psychosis or delusions
\n
